I think I am really liking the Headway Theme. I know it’s something new and I should be wary but my site redesign was either going to be with Thesis the now popular premium WordPress theme or Headway. Headway won me over because it promised simplicity. Thesis requires some coding from what I was told and I know only enough to make me crazily frustrated. Headway promised a drag and drop kinda thing and no need for coding so I went with it.
You can drag and drop to adjust your layout, for instance changing your site from a sidebar content sidebar layout to a content sidebar sidebar layout, without touching the code. You can change fonts, colors, add favicons, add content to the header or footer, add script, don’t add script totally edit everything SEO.
Here’s the catch, so far anyway. Since it is new the forums are slim on posts meaning if you are looking for an answer to something that is confusing you chances are someone else has not yet posted that question yet and you’ll have to wait for someone to post an answer. Also, the site advertises hot looking skins to choose from and while Headway has the ability to incorporate them the developers haven’t developed them yet, I guess. These are relatively minor things but I do question whether there is more little things or quirks I should worry about.
Let me temper this review with the fact that I don’t generally work with html, scripts or web design. I’m a writer and a marketer and that’s a little foreign to me. So I’d love to hear feedback from others on how you are liking Headway.
From my experience so far, it’s been surprisingly easy to work with and I’m really digging it. Check back to see the progress on my site. Oh and if you’re interested in getting Headway yourself, click on one of the banners on this page.

One response to “Headway Theme, digging it”
Hi there 🙂
I got the Headway theme when it was released and have nothing but praise for it. Like you, I’m not a coder and this always made me use Thesis less than I could have (I changed from Thesis to Headway). Now it’s a lot simpler and I can really go to town on the design. This is something I put together in 4 hours as a test (no CSS, no HTML):

I agree that the forums are “sparse”, although they have only been going two weeks so that’s understandable! 🙂 And Clay and everyone over there are fast at getting you an answer.
RE. the skins, much like the Thesis community I think we’ll see a bunch of great stuff from other users soon, and I know Clay has some ideas for Headway 1.5, due to be released next month.
Look forward to seeing your site take shape!
Danny.
